The helical lobe pump is a self-priming positive displacement pump. Synchronous gears drive two rotors mounted on separate shafts to rotate in opposite directions. Small sealed cavities are formed between the rotors and the pump casing; as the rotors turn, air is expelled from the inlet side to create a vacuum, drawing in the pumped medium. The material filling these cavities is continuously conveyed from the inlet to the outlet by the rotating rotors, ensuring continuous pump operation. The direction of material flow can be reversed by changing the direction of rotor rotation.
